Building a Transformational Coaching Culture

  • David Davis, Mr.,
  • Jim Guardino, EMD Serono

What is a transformational coaching culture? It’s a coaching mindset in which the organization actively supports and values development and provides leaders the tools, skills, and knowledge to develop employees to their full potential. It’s truly rare to find an organization that has developed itself into a coaching culture. An organization that has developed a coaching culture displays the following three qualities:

• Everyone in the organization knows the coaching model and the philosophy and skills behind it and supports it enthusiastically

• Employees recognize the importance of coaching and seek it from their managers

• Senior management sees development of its employees as critical to long-term success

EMD Serono has committed to transforming itself into a coaching culture. In 2017, EMD began a global initiative by introducing a learning solution titled Leaders Creating a Coaching Culture. The goal of this initial program is to develop senior leaders’ skills, knowledge, and abilities to cultivate a coaching culture within their management teams. The key difference between this initiative and other coaching solutions is that it goes beyond simply training the manager; it’s designed to change the culture of the group and give senior leaders the tools and skills to make that change. In this workshop, EMD and its vendor partner Romar Learning Solutions will share the high-level design of the cultural development initiative, global challenges EMD has overcome, and global successes so far. This will be a highly interactive workshop with activities and time to ask questions
